LEGO DUPLO®

About LEGO DUPLO®

DUPLO is LEGO's system for the youngest builders. The bricks are twice the size of standard LEGO bricks in each dimension, which makes them safe and easy to handle for small hands, and they remain compatible with regular bricks, so children can move on without abandoning their collection. The sets are designed for children from around eighteen months to five years and emphasise recognisable everyday scenes, animals, numbers, colours and role play rather than following instructions to a finished model.

The range covers animals and nature, family homes, vehicles and trains, early learning and licensed characters for small children. Because the bricks are large, piece counts are low: the largest set in our catalogue, the 3 in 1 Modern Family House with Figures (10470), has 166 pieces, followed by Discovery Forest with Wild Animals (10480) and the 3 in 1 Creative Ramps with Vehicles (10478). Open-ended boxes such as the Colorful Creative Box (10479) and game-oriented sets like the Animal Building Game (10472) cover free building and simple rules-based play.

DUPLO is the most heavily discounted theme in our data. Almost every set Brickheist tracks is available below recommended retail, with typical reductions well over a third. There is very little collector market for DUPLO; sets are bought to be played with, handed down and eventually sold as mixed lots, so retirement has almost no effect on value.

Piece count is a poor guide to value here, since DUPLO parts include figures, animals and large moulded elements. Look instead at how many basic bricks a set contains if you want a flexible collection, and at included figures and vehicles if you want role play. Creative boxes and larger house sets usually give the most building material for the money, and discounts are frequent enough that full price is rarely justified.
