About LEGO Icons

LEGO Icons is the brand's main line for adult builders, collecting what used to be sold as Creator Expert and a number of standalone adult sets. The focus is on display rather than play: detailed buildings, famous landmarks, classic vehicles, seasonal scenes and licensed showpieces. Builds are long and technique-heavy, with sub-assemblies, unusual part usage and careful attention to proportions, and instructions are written with experienced builders in mind.

The best-known sub-line is the modular buildings, a series of street-corner buildings designed to connect side by side, with a new one released at regular intervals. The theme also holds some of the largest sets ever made. The Eiffel Tower (10307) passes 10,000 pieces, the Titanic (10294) is over 9,000, and The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell (10316) brings a fantasy licence into the adult range. Newer additions such as the Hubble Space Telescope (11382), the Bookstore Book Nook (11379) and the Holiday House (11387) show how broad the line has become, from space history to seasonal displays.

Icons is discounted less than most themes Brickheist tracks. Most sets do go below recommended retail at some point, but the typical reduction is around a fifth rather than a third, and the largest models can sit at full price for long periods. Retirement matters more here than almost anywhere else: modular buildings and large landmark sets have historically been among the strongest performers on the secondary market, because they are expensive, adult-focused and produced in smaller numbers.

Because the sets are costly, even a modest percentage discount is worth waiting for, and seasonal sales are often when large Icons sets drop. If a set is known to be approaching retirement, buying at a fair discount is usually wiser than waiting. For the best value per piece, the mid-sized buildings tend to outperform the vehicle sets, which contain more specialised parts.
