LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog™

About LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog™

LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog grew out of a fan-voted LEGO Ideas set and became a full playset theme aimed mainly at children from around six to nine, with plenty of appeal for older Sega fans. The design language is recognisable: brick-built loops, ramps and a spinning speed-sphere launcher that sends Sonic flying, combined with the bright blues, greens and checkerboard patterns of the games. Characters come as custom-moulded figures rather than standard minifigures, which is a large part of the draw.

The largest set we track is Team Sonic Command Truck (77006), followed by Super Shadow vs. Biolizard (77003) and Silver's Car vs. Knuckles' Monster Truck (77118). The newest wave adds Tails' Tornado-1 (77119) and Shadow's Mech vs. G.U.N. Trooper (77120), showing a clear lean towards vehicles and rival-versus-rival scenes. Overall the sets are small to mid-sized.

Every Sonic set we track is currently discounted somewhere, and the average cut is roughly a third off RRP. That is typical of licensed kids' themes with steady supply. None of our sets are retired yet. Sonic sets are unlikely to become major investments, but figures of less common characters can be sought after once a set disappears.

Do not pay full price: with the whole range on offer, a discount is the norm rather than the exception. If you want a specific character, check which set includes the figure before buying, as several appear in only one box. Smaller sets make good gifts, while the Command Truck offers the most building.
