About LEGO Monkie Kid™

Monkie Kid is one of the few big in-house LEGO themes of recent years that is not tied to a film or game licence. It retells the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West through Monkie Kid, a young noodle-delivery boy who inherits the Monkey King's staff, and it was developed with Asian markets particularly in mind. The building style mixes traditional architecture, with curved roofs, lanterns and pagodas, against a colourful, slightly chaotic city of mechs and vehicles. The larger sets also attract adult builders who like the colour palette.

The theme's showpieces are big. Megapolis City 5th Anniversary (80054) is the largest set we track, followed by Monkey King Ultra Mech (80045) and Celestial Pagoda (80058). Newer waves include Erlang's Celestial Mech (80065) and Mythical Creature Qilin (80066).

Brickheist currently sees no Monkie Kid sets on discount in Denmark, and the price spread runs from small impulse sets to fairly expensive flagships. Fewer European shops stock it than the big licences, so price competition is limited. None of the sets we track are marked as retired yet, but in-house themes with modest Western distribution often become hard to find quickly once they leave shelves.

If a particular set appeals, set a price alert rather than waiting for a sale that may not come. Check several shops, as availability varies more than price. For the mechs, compare the piece count with the price: the larger sets usually give noticeably better value per brick.
