About LEGO Shrek
Shrek, DreamWorks' fairy-tale parody about a grumpy ogre and his talkative donkey, has a generation of fans who are now adults with their own disposable income. Unlike most big animated franchises, Shrek never had a LEGO theme of its own; earlier brick versions came from other manufacturers. Its arrival as an official LEGO licence, alongside a Shrek series of collectible minifigures, is therefore notable.
Brickheist tracks one set: Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots (72423, 1,403 pieces). Rather than a swamp play set, it is a display build of the three main characters, the format LEGO has increasingly used for licences whose appeal is mainly nostalgic. At this piece count it is a substantial evening or weekend build.
With a single set in the catalogue, our price data is limited. The set is currently discounted at the retailers we follow, by around a third, which is a meaningful reduction on a mid-priced display set. Whether the theme grows beyond this one model is an open question, so if the trio appeals to you, there is little reason to wait for a larger range; watch for a good price instead.
