About LEGO Super Mario™
LEGO Super Mario brings Nintendo's best-known characters into brick form. The theme began with an unusual idea: play courses built around an electronic Mario figure that reacts to coloured tiles and enemies, turning the build into a game with coins and timers. Expansion sets added new worlds, bosses and characters to the same system. In recent years the theme has broadened considerably, and today it covers both children's play sets and adult-oriented display models of vehicles, characters and classic hardware.
The largest sets in Brickheist's catalogue are all Mario Kart models: Mario Kart - Luigi & Mach 8 (72050), Mario Kart - Mario & Standard Kart (72037) and the Donkey Kong Arcade (72051), which recreates the original arcade cabinet. The newest releases, including Fire Luigi vs. Koopa Troopa Battle (72061), Fire Mario & Bowser's Castle (72060) and Mario Kart - Bowser's Rumbling Race (72058), show that the play-focused side of the theme is still very much active. Small character packs and mid-sized courses fill the rest of the range.
Pricing spans a wide range, from inexpensive character and expansion packs to large display sets. About two thirds of the sets we track are currently discounted somewhere, with an average saving of roughly a quarter off recommended price, which makes the theme less discount-heavy than Speed Champions or Classic. Availability differs by market, and several sets are listed in Denmark that we no longer see in the UK. Once retired, sets with unique characters or display appeal have tended to be the ones collectors seek out.
Before buying play sets, check which interactive figure or starter set they need, since expansions are designed around that system. For display builders, the big Mario Kart sets are the headline items, and they are most often found at reduced prices outside the launch window. Small expansion sets are the cheapest way to add specific characters, but they rarely offer good value per piece.
